I absolutely admire our Diva of this week!
I’m seated at Java Galleria, flipping through my current read, Unmerited Favour by Joseph Prince, wondering how our meet up will turn out.
My thoughts wonder from what she will be wearingtoday to how she does it: her blog and all!
Nancie Mwai is a fabulous way above average twenty five year old. I ask her to describe herself and she says that’s a hard question. In a nutshell Nancy is the youngest of two children and an aunt to three gorgeous girls.
Nancie is a renowned fashion blogger, fashion stylist, fashion editor, marketer and retailer. She is a certified accountant. When she told me this, my jaws dropped. I was impressed. Let’s just say, mathematics is not my strong point.
Nancie makes it to Diva of the week for a few reasons. One, it’s long overdue. My passion is in empowering women and bringing to light the women who work hard and hold their own and who should be celebrated.
Not only is Nancie independent, she has been living on her own since 2006, but she is also a go-getter who follows her dreams. She is self driven and motivated and holds her own. She believes that women all over should first believe in themselves, and then others will believe in them.
Before I talk about Nancie’s achievements, I must admit that I stalk her blog. I have it bookmarked and among my favourites. She started her own online magazine. She was featured amongst the top bloggers in Africa in The Guardian (UK) and most recently won the B.A.K.E Awards for best fashion blog. She has also graced this month’s issue of true love and is also the face on Wambui Mukenyi
The one thing that Nancie values in her life is God and her family and in her closet she loves everything that she has ever bought for her mum and admits that she sometimes she steals outfits from her mum’s closet. She also loves her spiked gold heels which I think are a killer!
Nancie shares the same thoughts with Sbu (the editor of Cosmopolitan South Africa) when she says that her fashion weakness is repeating outfits. In fact on her site she has a repeat offender series which you can check out HERE.
Nancie divulges that the lowest moment in her life was when she has to take a break from blogging. This break lasted about three weeks. She says that she was soo overwhelmed and she had to retreat and re-group as she felt that she was taking on too much.
She got right back up by killing some features that were taking up a lot of her energy on her blog and even redid the theme which I think is more vibrant and interactive now.
Nancie is in an amazing relationship with Ken Maina whom she refers to as her Mr. Right and soul mate. Now, when I told her that I’m not seeing anyone, she tells me to remain open minded and to always remember that everything works
at in good time.
Petite like me, Nancie’s style is arguably the edgiest that this country has seen. Not only is she a trendsetter but she also takes time to educate the general public about fashion and trends and goes on to make it so easy to follow.
She relaxes by reading: Not the contemporary reading though, she prefers downloading the e-book then reading from her laptop. She also prefers watching series other than movies and anything girlie with lots of outfits and dressing up will do, not forgetting America’s Next Top Model
Nancie’s plans of the future include expanding her site to be the “Daily Nation” of fashion in the country and when it all falls into place she will have more bloggers participating in the site. I long for this day Nancie.
I enjoyed meeting this fashion power house and I was inspired to do better and take Diva Style Collection to the next level.
Nancie, the world better watch out because you only have up to go. You are encouragement to all women out there with a heart and love for fashion.
Keep it up hun!
